I went to sleep two nights ago
among the world of many folks
sitting in a wheel chair
not far from hospital stairs
fast asleep between automatic doors
I forgot I was there

I was too tired to walk
too tired to stay awake
I drifted away
then he came
to take me up
to see my mama
suffering
congestive heart failure

Resting in peace
free of pain
I have no memory
of passerby’s
no memory
of how long I waited
before he came

Like death
there is no memory
of the stresses

of suffering
just peaceful
uninterrupted
sleep
